What does the cost of hearing aids and your car have in common? Both are important and come at a cost. Many times in my life I have had more money in my ears than in my mode of transportation. Depending on the provider, a patient could have a payment to the office or finance my hearing devices using a medical credit card. Check with your insurance to see if hearing aids are covered and at what providers. Perhaps your vision insurance has a provision for hearing aid coverage or a discount program. As you plan your funds for your FSA or HSA for the year, include funds for your hearing aid. Consider your taxes, do you itemize deductions, hearing aids costs can be added under medical costs. Perhaps you want to find a financial assistance program in your area such as a local church group, state vocational rehabilitation or veteran’s administration.
